New Sermon Series – Stories From the Psalms started our new sermon series last Sunday with an introduction to the Psalms and a look at Psalm 1.

This Sunday it’s on to one of my very favorite psalms – Psalm 3!  It’s about the story of David’s flight from his own palace, when in the dead of the night, with a few faithful followers he hid himself from the fury of his rebellious son.  This psalm tells of his amazing response to betrayal – a great lesson for us all!

The Psalms have a wonderful capacity to capture the reality of our human experience.  They express the emotions, personal feelings, attitudes, gratitude, and interests of the average individual.  One reason people love the Psalms is that we can each usually identify the Psalms with our own experiences.  In every experience of our own, no matter how deep the pain or how great the frustration or how exhilarating the joy, we can find psalms which echo our inmost being, psalms which God uses to bring comfort or to confirm release.

Make sure to bring your Bible for this series!

The Word For You Today Daily Devotional

The new Mar/Apr/May devotional is now available.  Pick one up at the Back Table (it’s free).  In about 3-5 minutes each day you can be greatly encouraged, as God will drop His Word into your heart.

Sunday, 4/15 –

1 O Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah

3 But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head. 4 To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill. Selah

5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. 6 I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.

7 Arise, O Lord! Deliver me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.     (Psalm 3:1-8)

See ya Sunday!
