Sanctuary Church of Windsor is a “Sanctuary of Friends” in the community of Windsor and Sonoma County. We exist to give testimony to the love of God through our actions in our community and provide an opportunity to explore the God of the Bible and how a relationship with Him can enable an incredibly fulfilling and empowered life

Senior Pastor

Thanks for stopping by today to get a glimpse of why I do what I do! Somewhere along the way many of us hear the Lord’s voice calling us to step out in faith and do something for Him. Boy, I sure did! Just after my 20th birthday, I surrendered my life to Christ on the big wave of the Jesus Movement, and it totally altered my life! The people I hung out with in those days were passionate church planters, so I became one too. Thirty-eight years and four church plants later (the most recent being Sanctuary with my dear friend Todd Michero), I have never felt as hopeful as I do now about the mission that God has set before us!

I remember sensing early on that the Lord was calling me to the life of a pastor/shepherd. And mixed with my love for music (my father was a trumpet player who led a big band, and my mother was a singer), I found myself relating a lot to David, my best Old Testament friend. He was a simple shepherd boy who loved to worship God with an electric guitar…okay, a harp. But before he was a king he was a courageous teenager who took on a taunting giant and an enemy nation. As he approached Goliath he stooped down to pick up five smooth stones from the stream. The rest is, shall we say, history! David’s courage has always inspired me. But perhaps his greatest legacy are the seventy-five or so psalms he left us—songs recording his faith, doubts and worship all in one! I remind myself of David’s courage and heart for worship by always carrying five guitar picks in my pocket!

God’s purpose for my life seems to have been galvanized through the many trials I’ve experienced over the years. In John chapter six we read about how when many of Jesus’ followers left, He asked the Twelve, “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life?” The Lord has always met me in my darkest hours, so I in turn try to be there for people. If there is a passage of Scripture which motivates me for ministry, it would have to be Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians chapter one – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

I desperately desire to be a part of a community where faith, suffering, compassion, comfort and courage are wrapped up in one with passionate worship!

I have been happily married to my best friend Starla for 29 years. We have four children, six grandchildren and a big black Standard Poodle named Maggie!

And oh…I find myself again looking for big (spiritual) waves. I think I see one coming!

Worship Arts Pastor

I’m so glad you are stopping by today! I’ve been following Christ since I was 10 (let’s just say its been over 40 years and leave it at that!). Jesus never ceases to amaze me, and I count it a privilege to serve Him here at Sanctuary with the main job of leading our congregation and guests in worship. What a great job! I am presently part-time at the church and also make a living as a Real Estate Appraiser (which I have done for 30 years). I really enjoy the bi-vocational setting, which allows me to provide for my family, get out of the four walls of the church, and still have time to play a little golf and bocce ball! I have a gorgeous and wonderful family (as you can see in the photo). I’ve been married to my beautiful bride, Denise, for 33 years, and we have 3 great kids, Jeremy, Jenelle, and Jacob. You will often see Jacob at Sanctuary playing drums, guitar, and leading and Denise playing percussion. Jenelle and Jeremy are musical, too, and stop by when they can.

I love to write songs, and have the privilege of singing those songs with the congregation. I have been a professional musician for many years and studied music at UCLA and CSULB. For about 27 years now, I have been leading worship at churches here in Sonoma County. Before Sanctuary, I was full-time Worship Pastor at Redwood Covenant Church for 15 years.

I hope you will come and visit us some time soon. We have a great team of musicians, and our hope is that you will enjoy the music and be blessed by the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
